Passport

You will need a valid passport to study abroad not only in Japan but also in any destination. If you don’t have a valid passport and are even considering study abroad, you should apply for or renew your passport as early as possible and plan to have your valid passport in hand by your program application deadline as some programs require visa paperwork at that time. You need your passport to be valid for at least six months beyond your scheduled departure from Vietnam.

Certificate of Eligibility (COE)

The Certificate of Eligibility provides proof that s/he conforms to the conditions for entry as prescribed in Article 7 Paragraph 1 Item 2 of the Immigration Control Act. Therefore, being in possession of a Certificate of Eligibility will make the procedures for visa issuance at overseas Japanese embassies, etc. as well as the immigration inspection at a Japanese airport go smoothly. Because the documents required by a Japanese educational institution may differ from school to school, you should consult the school in which you are scheduled to enroll for details.

Two main factors will be inspected when the immigration authority screens your application for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE).

1. Whether you received Admission or not

The immigration authority will inspect your graduate certificate of the latest school you attended in your home country and the admission issued by the school you will enter in Japan.

2. Whether you have sufficient financial resources that cover tuition and living expenses. The immigration authority will inspect certificates of your bank balance and income.

In some cases, the COE will not be issued if your documentation is incomplete, even if you have enough money to cover the expenses for studying in Japan. Study in Japan is impossible without being issued a COE.

Please note that no agent, no school, no organization can commit 100% passing COE for any student but Immigration Authority, so sometimes, you have to accept that you fail for COE and you should work closely with consultant or professional to find out the issues and solutions.

VISA

Same additional screening can be made when you apply for visa in Vietnam, even if you received a COE. Normally, one of our dedicated staff will submit document on behalf of you, however, sometimes you need to join one additional interview. Embassy officials will test your Japanese ability and ask you information about the latest school you graduated from and your expected school in Japan. They will also look over your financial situation. If a visa has not been issued, it is impossible for you to study in Japan even with the admission sent by school. In such cases, you will have to defer your admission and try again later.
